Personal Projects

I always have a few side projects that I am working on for fun, and this is a collection of a few of the animations, graphics and illustrations that I have created for my own use. I recognize that personal side projects are a cornerstone of creative growth and discovery, and I find that the long term benefits of having these projects help me to grow as a designer and as a person.

Animations:

When I first started getting into animation and design I got a free trial of Flash. I spent the full 30-day free trial sitting in front of my iMac in my apartment in Boston working on this animation.  It is animated on twos (12 frames a second rather than 24) and I drew the whole thing with a mouse, rather than a Wacom tablet.  Looking back, I have no idea how I managed to do that, but after many years working in film production and animation, this is still my favorite animation I’ve made.

This was a very fun project that I created for a friend of mine that is a sound engineer in Chicago. It was a silly and very entertaining video to work on.

Graphic Design:

Illustrations:

Two illustrations celebrating coffee, cats, and quiet moments.

Vintage Fisher Price Horse, probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a 3D modeling project.

I love HubSpot’s style and inclusive product design.  I wanted to create a few illustrations inspired by their work using their style guide. I do not work for HubSpot, these are just personal projects that I thought would be fun to create.

Converse:

This is an illustration I created that was inspired by a Creative Mornings I attended in January of 2019.  If you want to hear an amazing and inspiring story I highly recommend you listen to this talk by Elizabeth Traynor, the Internal Communications Lead on the Global Communications Team at Converse.
